The well Van Nieuwkapelle is a pond of 7.5 hectares owned by the water group. The water company wants to install floating solar panels on about 2 hectares. According to opponents, that would have negative consequences for nature, fauna and recreation in the area.
Last Sunday, around 250 people came together to protest against the project. They formed a human chain along the bank to show their displeasure. The Diksmuide Environmental Council also joins the resistance. The city must decide at the latest on 9 October whether the solar park will be there or not.
