A homage to New York
Roan himself says about “The Subway” that the song includes everything she love about New York City. “With the hope, heartache and the healing that can offer us all,” added the singer.
In terms of content, the song also moves between said heartache, memories of past love and letting go of it. Chappell Roan tells of persistent pain after the end of a romantic relationship and the nostalgia that remains.
Fan favourite at festivals
Since the world premiere, she regularly performed the song that had been unpublished until then at her shows and at festival appearances – including at her set on Primavera Sound 2025. Her fans have long since been looking forward to the release of the song.
Pop ballad as it is in the book
The ballad produced by Daniel Nigro is the third single release since the release of her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The album published in 2023 paved the way for a worldwide career. At the latest since she was on stage as a support act for Olivia Rodrigo, she has become an integral part of the industry. At the Grammys 2025, she was also recognized as the “best newcomer”.
Video premiere on August 1st
“The Subway” by Chappell Roan has been available on all common streaming platforms since the night of July 31st to August 1st. The music video for single celebrates its premiere on Friday, August 1, at 4 p.m..
