McLaren-Pilot Oscar Piatri could not be stopped in the rain of SPA and secured his next victory. The young Australian continued to build his leadership in the Formula 1 World Cup through the success and also set a new record.
Oscar Piatri is and remains the man of the hour in the 2025 Formula 1 season. The McLaren pilot was already winning its sixth win of the season at the Grand Prix of Belgium. His leadership in the World Cup ranking on Team colleague Lando Norris is currently 16 points.
With his triumphal trip in the rain of Spa, the 24-year-old also set a new Formula 1 record. Piatri is now the first Australian Formula 1 driver of history, who won more than five races in one season.
Piatri depends on Formula 1 legends
So far, Piatri shared the record with the two Australian legends Sir Jack Brabham and Alan Jones. Threefight world champion Brabham won five races in the 1960 season -even in a row -Jones won five Grands Prix in his world champion year 1980.
What makes Piatris six victories remarkable, among other things: the 24-year-old only needed 13 races. Eleven other Grands Prix still stays him to further expand his record. For comparison: Brabham had won his five successes in one season with ten races, Jones his five in a year with 14 races.
Oscar Piatri has long since left two other Australian Formula 1 icons, including his own manager Mark Webber, who won four races in the 2010 season. Daniel Ricciardo’s personal best dates from the 2014 season, in which he was at the top of the podium three times.
