The two suspects aged 16 and 23 who are suspected of involvement in the fatal shooting in Coevorden will stay stuck for fourteen days longer. The examining magistrate decided that yesterday.
The Public Prosecution Service says that the suspects are still in full limitations and therefore may not communicate with others than their lawyer.
The investigation into the shooting incident on the Kromme Elleboog, in which a 21-year-old man from Emmen died, is still going on. The police take into account that more arrests will follow. Due to the restrictions, the police and the judiciary make few substantive statements about the case for the time being.
Since the fatal shooting incident in the early morning of Saturday, July 19, several suspects have now been arrested. Shortly after the report, an 18-year-old man from Schoonebeek was arrested. His role is still being investigated, but he has been sent for the time being. A 16-year-old boy from the municipality of Emmen was arrested on Monday 21 July and is still stuck. The arrest of a 23-year-old man from Schoonebeek followed on Wednesday. He is also in full limitations.
In addition, two other men, aged 31 from Emmen and 33 years from Coevorden, were held on suspicion of mistreatment and/or attempt at deprivation of liberty by the 18-year-old suspect. The 31-year-old has since been released but remains the suspect in the investigation. The 33-year-old man is still stuck.
The alleged abuse and deprivation of liberty would have taken place just before the shooting, at the same location on the Kromme Elleboog. Whether these incidents are directly related to the fatal shooting is still the subject of research. The police take into account that the events are interrelated, but do not confirm that yet.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, a Team Large -scale Investigation (TGO) has been put on the case. Since then, trace research has been done, witnesses have been heard and camera images are viewed. Several buildings in Coevorden and Emmen have also been searched and data carriers were seized.
