Co Kruys takes over for the time being
The traditional Dutch club FC Utrecht and coach René Hake are going their separate ways after about a year and a half. Both sides had agreed on an amicable termination of the contract, said the seventh in the Eredivisie. Hake’s assistant coach Rick Kruys will look after the team on an interim basis until the end of the season.
“First-team results have fallen short of the expectations and ambitions we have for too long. We have had open and honest discussions about this now, but also recently. We have come to the conclusion that it is better for both parties to end the cooperation,” said Utrecht’s Technical Director, Jordy Zuidam.
Seventh place entitles Utrecht to take part in the playoffs for the last place in the European Cup. Both the upper table places and the relegation zones are relatively far away. “Of course I’m first and foremost disappointed that my time at FC Utrecht is over,” said Hake. “I was confident that we could turn the negative streak of recent times into a positive one at the end of the season.”
