Rider Isabell Werth left room for improvement this year at her first appearance at the Chio in Aachen.

With the young horse Special Blend, the best rider in the story in the four-star grand prix rode sixth with 71.826 percent. The victory in the examination, which was delayed due to rain, surprisingly went to Norwegian Isabel Freese and Total Hope (74,261).

After the short-term failure of the German champion Sönke Rothenberger and Fendi in the Nations Prize team, national coach Monica Theodorescu will focus a little more at the four-star exams. Rothenberger is a candidate for the European Championship in Crozet, France (26th to 31st August) that the race could continue to pick up speed in Aachen.

At the start in the “Little Tour”, however, some German rider couples left the chance to draw attention to themselves. The four-time Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and her very inexperienced young horse Diallo completely lost the thread after mistakes in the piaffen and only reached 21 (66,630).

Rothenberger’s sister Semmieke was most likely to surprise, she pushed fourth place with Farrington and 72.565 percent and was the best German. EM candidate Matthias Alexander Rath rode 70.696 percent with Destacado and only to eleventh place. It continues with the Grand Prix Special on Friday (5:45 p.m.).
