Frederic Vasseur at Ferrari’s third year is proving to be very complicated. Yet to remove him from his role as Team Principal would be a mistake: Toto Wolff is convinced. Speaking to the media present in Austria during the eleventh act of the F1 2025 World Cup, the executive director Mercedes openly defended the Frenchman, considered among the best in his role. To be accused is the little patience in the Circus, made evident by numerous changes at the top of the various teams and remarked by a joke of Wolff himself: “It seems that the teams in general have become a sort of swivel doors. Now I and Horner we are the only dinosaurs’ remained”.

Ferrari is not shining in the F1 2025 world championship. After 11 races the booty of the team is good, but not exciting: second place between the builders and one flash, namely the Sprint of Shanghai, won by Lewis Hamilton. Wolff, however, asks for more patience towards Vasseur and provides an example very dear to the Ferraristi: “Remember Jean Todt? It arrived in 1993 and won the first title in 2000. There are eight years. There are cycles …”. And the Austrian adds: “Give space in Vasseur, let it act. Allow him to model an organization that is not ruined from the first day. Fred is one of the best racing managers that I know. If I were not in this team, I would choose to cover my role. So he respects him a lot. He has a great personality, he is a frank man. He does not make politics, he does not mind and he knows about it.”

According to Wolff, the colleague’s task is made even more complicated by the passion around Ferrari. A support, according to him, not always simple to channel: “It is like managing the national football team. If you win you are the best, if you lose you have failed. Italy is done so and it is still fantastic. But, perhaps, this is something that Fred must learn to manage. But for the rest, it should enjoy the trust necessary to manage the team”. Also because replacing Vasseur would be very complicated from the point of view of Toto: “They will not find someone better than him”. A very clear warning aimed at Ferrari.
