Before the delicate NDW plant was banged, abused and sacrificed on the altar of sluggish banalities, there was this short phase of creative flights: artists: Inside who flirted musically with punk, wave, electro and avant-garde, but used the language that the common pop fan worst, but also associated with soap music, but perhaps With “thoughtfully demanding” song making or Lindenberg’s snoddery German rock humoresques. Let’s put it this way: Singing in German in 1980 was not necessarily an ID card of modernity and coolness. But that could change. What it did.

The NDW phenomenon was of course over for the sophisticated full checkers of the variety of “I was a punk before you were a punk” (again congratulations!) Before the general public had even noted, but that should not be the yardstick today. Ideal was by no means the first volume to be attributed to the genre, but her debut album still appeared in the NDW breakthrough year 1980.
They weren’t the most radical and revolutionary representatives of German -speaking new tones
Also, they were not the most radical and revolutionary representatives of German -speaking new tinting, but very successful. So: highly suspicious! Which even culminated in a song about “blue eyes”, actually a classic hit subject. Only from Annette Humpe’s words speaks more hard -working boredom as a consequence of constant overstimulation: “I also don’t want to be in London / with sex and drugs and rock’n’roll / is mostly a stump.” Be cool at all costs? Have money, hang on the hot spots and take the right clothes for a walk? How exhausting!
What the song “I prefer to go there”, but supplemented with a contemporary no-future subtone. Even if the word dawn on dog droppings rhyme in the play “Berlin”-ideally, an additional fee from the West Berlin tourism association would have earned, because the three and a half minute number celebrated / propagates / glorifies exactly the attitude to life that interests interested provincial land on land on the reality checker for upcoming school trips. The chances for the 10b from Visselhövede were quite good at the time, because Mauerstadt always went.
The inventory, clichés or not, but even then not only from Kreuzberg, hip clubs and “rustic” corner pubs, also located in Schickeria, in all German folklore in Düsseldorf and Munich, had their slope outs in West Berlin. “Hundsgemeins”. We learn: The main thing is that you make one on thick trousers, whose costs always. The zeitgeist was just like that: Even in the “fat B”, that Yuppies pounded the Eighties-Subspezies that was more apparent to the doors of Rolf Edens Edens Eden-Establissements.
The music gives joy around it
Nina Hagen’s “Pank”, her adequately angry billing published two years earlier and scolding tirade on a simple macho droppings, may have set the sound, but ideals “crazy” draws the more differentiated picture of a toxic relationship. Double morality, larmoyance, aggressiveness – all inclusive. Only: Hagen sent the cheese sock types into the desert, “crazy” leaves the end open. We hope the best.
The music gives joy around it, which, on the one hand, is based on the nervous, slightly hectic habitus of contemporary new-wave sounds, on the other hand quoted the punk again and again, but ultimately one thing is one thing: pop with astonishing freshness factor. Keyboarder Annette Humpe and guitarist Eff Jott Krüger act stylishly and confidently, but it is above all the rhythm group from bassist Ernst Deuker and drummer Hans Joachim Behrendt, who shines with precise, refined vital game.
It is really not about any kind of sophisticated muckertum, but about getting all the good ideas vigorously and powerfully to the point. If a suspected forest horn also roars in “dog community” while Krüger’s guitar sets Funky accents, this is pretty great. Ideal LP debut appeared on the IC label of the electronics pioneer Klaus Schulze, playable with 45 rpm, which was probably a surprise in the first contact with nine out of ten record buyers. The current “2025 Mix” comes from the original bands, was digitized and mixed up by Moritz Enders and Annette Humpe. Is the difference gigantic? No. Is he audible? Yes.
