Bruce Springsteen made Gelsenkirchen a promised country: on June 27th he played boss With his E Street band once again an XXL concert in the Veltins-Arena. Unfortunately, one was not there for health reasons: Steven van Zandt.
The concert began with “No Surrender” and “My Love Will Not Let You Down”, followed by “Land of Hope and Dreams” that gives the tour its name. In addition to classics such as “Born in the USA”, “Dancing in the Dark” and “The River”, newer titles such as “Rainmaker” or “House of a Thousand Guitars” (both from “Letter to You”) were found in the setlist. Three cover versions – including the Closer “Chimes of Freedom” by Bob Dylan – rounded off the evening.
Bruce Springsteen in Gelsenkirchen: Without van Zandt
Unfortunately Steven van Zandt was missing. The guitarist was recently operated on due to appendicitis “had stinging stomach pain, thought that it was food poisoning – turned out to be an appendicitis,” wrote van Zandt in a message to fans via Instagram. “Happened with an extraordinary hospital in San Sebastián. The operation was a complete success and I hope to be on stage again at at least one of the appearances in Milan. Thanks for all the positive vibes.”
Album statistics
Most songs of the evening came from the successful album Born in the USA (5 pieces). This was followed by several albums with three songs each: “Born to run”, “Darkness on the Edge of Town”, “The Rising” and “Wrecking Ball”. The newer works “Letter to You” (2 songs) and “Magic” (1 song) were also represented. There were also three cover versions.
