Germany’s success tour at the women’s basketball championship is over. The DBB selection was able to keep up well against Favorit Belgium. The team of the American national coach Lisa Thomaidis had to give up 59:83 (36:41) in Piraeus in Greek on Wednesday and give up the dream of the semi-final coup.

Germany was able to make the first quarter balanced (21:21), but then easily lost the connection in the second quarter. Belgium also went into the break with a five-point lead thanks to the calmly and outstanding top player Emma Meesseman (41:36).

Then Belgium’s national team switched up a gear and expanded the lead to twelve points until the end of the third quarter (65:53). In the final quarter, Belgium left no doubt and won a lead with 24 points.

Germany had to do without its top players Satou Sabally, Captain Marie Gülich, Nyara Sabally and Alina Hartmann and was in the end without a chance.

Outstanding start from the distance

“Team D” started the game strongly. Against the numerous great Belgian players, it quickly became clear which tactic Germany wanted to keep the reigning European champions in chess. Because the team of national coach Lisa Thomaidis fired in every attack from beyond the three-line line and had a great success: after five minutes, five out of seven three throws had found their way, the DBB selection took the lead with 17:13. Luisa Geiselsöder in particular threw strongly, but Frieda Bühner and Emily Besssoir were also very accurate.

But then there was a little break in the German game. Towards the end of the first quarter, the DBB women had no basket out of the field for almost five minutes. But Emily Bessoir interrupted the basket of time with the next distance. But when Frieda Wilke had to be treated briefly with a facial injury and Alexis Peterson after a collision, there wasn’t much left on the field even when attempting distance.

Second half: Belgium pulls away

After the break, the Belgian team still grew up in terms of intensity. Especially now, the team Messeman trained by basketball icon Mike Thibault was able to stage better – the 1.93m player successfully moved to the basket six times, and Belgium also pulled away thanks to a strongly played Kyara Linskens.

Strong appearance against overpowering favorites

Overall, the selection of Germany was wicker and frozen the twelve deficit from the middle of the third quarter. Germany’s Star Leonie Fiebich never found its rhythm in this game, but Bessoir and Peterson kept the German women halfway involved.

But also because the only 1.65m tall Peterson could not give its numerous assists as in the previous European Championship games, Belgium continued to settle.

Even in the last game area, the German women never gave up, but after the first quarter, never seriously able to seriously impress the clear title favorite Belgium.
