“It’s better than last year, and that’s very good news,” said Quintin during a visit to the Scheepvaart police in Zeebrugge. “The work of the SPN, the federal police and the local police yield results. The Scheepvaart police is not only responsible for security, but also for the fight against drug crime and illegal migration.”
The number of intercepted transmigrants has fallen steadily in recent years. Almost 2,500 migrants were stopped in 2021, in 2023 there were 350. Last year there was again a slight increase, so the focus on checks did not relax.
