The former German national soccer player Melanie Leupolz ends her career.

The 31-year-old announced this on Friday (June 13, 2025) in a video spread on Instagram. Most recently, the 2013 European championship and Olympic champion from 2016 were under contract with Real Madrid.

“After many and emotional years in professional football, I made the difficult decision to end my career in summer”said Leupolz in the post. “I had the privilege of playing at the highest level for many years, winning many titles and creating unforgettable memories”she added “Thanks football!”

Born in Allgäu, she had started her professional career at SC Freiburg and spent six years at FC Bayern between 2014 and 2020, with which she became German champion in 2015 and 2016. With the FC Chelsea Between 2021 and 2024 she also became English champion four times in a row.
