Since Brian Wilson’s death, there has been a wave of grief. BIllie Joe Armstrong from Green Day paid tribute to the Beach Boys legend and released a cover of “I Get Around”.
Armstrong divided his version of the classic from 1964 into Instagram, which goes towards punk rock and contains a grandiose guitar reef. He also admitted that the cover was not new and was put on hold some time ago. “Thank you, Brian Wilson,” he wrote. “A few years ago I recorded a cover of ‘i Get Around’, but I could never share it. One of my absolute favorite songs ever.”
More musicians honor Brian Wilson
Armstrong is one of many musicians who have paid Wilson tribute; Sting also covered the Beach Boys song “God Only Knows” at a concert in Germany. “Today one of my heroes died, Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys,” he said before the performance. “So I want to sing a song that I love.”
Springsteen, McCartney and Dylan remember
Other big rock legends have also written emotional honors, including Bruce Springsteen (“If the Beach Boys did not exist, there would also be ‘Racing in the Street’), Paul McCartney (” I loved him and had the privilege in his bright, bright light “) and Bob Dylan (” I heard the sad news about Brian today and had to Think all the years in which I listened to him and admired his genius ”).
The von Wilson family did not call the cause of death, but in February 2024 it became known that he suffered from dementia. “With a broken heart we have to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson died,” it said in a message. “We are missing the words at the moment. Please respect our privacy during this time. We are aware that we share our pain with the world.”
