VfL Wolfsburg will go into the coming season of the Bundesliga with Paul Simonis as a coach. The 40 -year -old Dutch comes from the Go Ahead Eagles to the factory club and receives an ongoing until 2027.

This was announced by the Lower Saxony on Thursday. In addition to the long-time goalkeeper Pascal Formmann, Tristan Berghuis and Martin Darne much, who also change from the Go Ahead Eagles to the “Wölfen”, and the previous coach of the Dutch U19 national team, Peter van der Veen, will include the coaching team of Simonis.

Christiansen: “Fits perfectly into Requirement profile “

“It was an intensive process at the end of which we chose Paul Simonis. It fits perfectly into our requirement profile,” said Peter Christiansen, VfL Managing Director Sport. “Paul works very detailed in all areas, he has the same ideas and ideas in terms of content and structurally as we want to perform on the pitch in the future and want to re -organize VfL Wolfsburg with fresh impulses and at the same time consistently advance in its development – from the professionals to the youth area,” added the Dane.

Wolfsburg must transfer transfer to Deventer

This ends the search for VfL for a successor for Ralph Hasenhüttl. The “wolves” had separated from the Austrian two game days before the end of the past season. U19 coach Daniel Bauer was sitting on the bench. Now Simonis should lead VfL into the European Cup if possible.

The 40-year-old had taken over the Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer last summer and sensationally led to the cup victory. It was the first title for the association since 1933. Since Simonis was still under contract with the Dutch club until 2027, VfL must pay a transfer.

VfL for Simoni’s second station as head coach

“It was very good and very comprehensive conversations at a high level that I led with Peter Christiansen, Sebastian Schindzielorz and also with Sebastian Rudolph. That immediately gave me the feeling that this decision was the right step,” said Simonis.

For the 40-year-old, VfL is the first abroad and his second job as a head coach. Before he had taken over the Go Ahead Eagles as a trainer, he worked as an assistant at the Club from Deventer and SC Heerenveen.
