That didn’t make the sidewalk cyclists happy. On images from his doorbell camera you can see that the pots were kicked over a few times. The police were called in on this.
“They received a report that people had complained, because they could not cycle over the sidewalk. Then I also asked that agent if she heard what she told herself and she actually had to laugh a bit about it,” Harm told NH.
He got another chance from the municipality to remove his flower pots, but refused. He can defend himself on Tuesday during a hearing against the fines of 1500 euros.
‘The Netherlands at its best’
After sharing his story, a wave of statements of support followed. Most people thought it was ridiculous that Harm was fined. “It’s great anyway. I would take a lawyer. It is a sidewalk, not a cycle path. So the fine is not justified. Really the Netherlands at its best,” someone under the Facebook post of NH responded. Soon the hashtag #teamharm is created.
And now a collection campaign has started. Donors do not give Harm especially that he says he has to drink a beer less because of the fine. ” The goal is ultimately to pay Harms fine and some extra beers. That can be a lot, the target amount is 3000 euros.
Harm told NH that he thinks it is great to see that so many people are on his side. “I think we have brought the biggest annoyance in the Netherlands in the news.” He does not buy any lager from the money that remains. “That goes to Kika.”
