More than 300 stars from music, film and culture – including Benedict Cumberbatch, Dua Lipa, Riz Ahmed and Annie Lennox – have signed an urgent open letter to the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. They ask him to end the “complicity” of Great Britain on the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
“We ask you to take immediate measures in order to end the united kingdom’s complicity on the horrors in Gaza,” says “Deadline” in the letter. “At the moment, children are hungry in the Gaza Strip, while food and medicine are only blocked at the border for a few minutes away. Words will not feed the Palestinian children. We need action.”
A star ensemble demands Gaza aid
The list of signatories reads like a Who is who of the entertainment world. In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch and Dua Lipa, actors such as Tobias Menzies, Tilda Swinton, Toby Jones are also involved. There are also musicians such as Annie Lennox, Mark Ruffalo and Lily Cole. British actor Riz Ahmed also uses his voice to draw attention to the suffering of 2.1 million people in Gaza. 290,000 children who are on the verge of starvation are also affected.
The prominent supporters are calling for the British government to suspend the immediate suspension of all weapons sales to Israel as well as unrestricted humanitarian access for aid organizations. The initiative was launched by “Choose Love”, an NGO that provides emergency aid for refugees.
Dramatic location in the Gaza Strip: Hunger and Death
The co -founder of “Choose Love” Josie Naughton appealed: “We now need acts by Keir Strandmer. The story will remember what we did at that moment,” reports “Deadline”. “We are interested in the prime minister to make the right decision.”
Food and medicine in the Gaza Strip have been severely restricted for more than 70 days. Over 54,000 dead reports the health authority led by Hamas. International aid deliveries are insufficiently reaching the area. Worldwide attention is growing and with it the pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy. While some European heads of state and government express criticism of Israel’s approach, Western governments largely adhere to their support for Israel.
