Bundesliga trainer does not extend the contract-immediate separation?

Most recently there was more speculation about the future of Ole Werner near Werder Bremen. Now it is clear: the paths will separate.
Head coach Ole Werner will leave Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in the summer of next year at the latest. As the club announced on Monday, the coach does not want to extend its contract that expires in the summer of 2026.
“We very much regret this decision because we were able to imagine long-term cooperation with Ole very well,” Clemens Fritz, managing director of football, is quoted in a club notification. “We have to accept the decision now and will analyze the current situation and decide what Werder is the best solution. For this process, we take the necessary time and then communicate the result,” continued Fritz.
The press release does not mentions the motives for Werner’s decision. According to reports, however, it is said to have crashed due to different opinions about the management planning and future sporting ambitions.
Werner’s decision follows the “Bild” newspaper and the “Deichstube” from Sunday, according to which a collaboration between Bremen and Werner is no longer a matter of course-despite the sporting success.
With eighth place in the Bundesliga, the club under Werner had achieved a strong result in the past season. And yet – the signals of the past few days indicated movement. Werner himself had already said before the last test game at the OSC Bremerhaven (4: 1) that it was good for everyone involved, “if you have clarity”. This should be created as soon as possible.
Statements like these attracted some attention. “If you always want to create new energy, there are only two options: either it has to change things around a trainer, or at some point it is at the point where it is good for everyone if something is happening in the position of the coach,” said Werner on Saturday.
According to the “Bild” newspaper, the club has already prepared for different scenarios and also spoke to possible successors. It has not yet been clear whether Werner’s decision, not to extend his contract, could also lead to a separation before the end of the coming season. According to a report of the TV station Sky, an immediate separation is quite likely.
Werner took over the second division club Bremen in November 2021 and led the club back to the Bundesliga. Even in the highest German division, the Bremen always made progress under him. After 13th place in the 20222/2023 season, a season later followed ninth and now with eighth place almost the qualification for Europe.
