Leon Goretzka looks back on a complicated year at FC Bayern. At the beginning of the season, the midfielder ultimately brought it to a proud 40 competitive games for the Munich team. Now it is again considered a candidate for sale, but obviously does not want to know anything about it himself.
A year before his contract expired at FC Bayern, Leon Goretzka now made it clear in a newspaper interview that he himself was not interested in saying goodbye to Munich.
“I don’t plan to leave the club,” said the 30-year-old in an interview with the “Welt am Sonntag”, from which the “Bild” quoted in advance.
“My plan is definitely to play at Bayern next season,” Goretzka pushed in clear words.
The Bochum native has been written down several times over the past two years, but then it bit again and again among the head coach Thomas Tuchel and Vincent Kompany. Especially in the Champions League, Goretzka was a fixture at FC Bayern, as he was in the field in twelve of the 14 season games in the premier class.
Goretzka was six times German champion with FC Bayern
The midfielder himself now spoke about the great challenge of hiding the persistent change rumors and negative press about himself: “If so much is reported about you, you have to be able to endure this. A healthy classification of myself, a healthy environment and teammates that were there for me, helps me.”
Obviously, Bavaria Honorary President Uli Hoeneß also played a special role. Goretzka reported that he had a regular exchange with the club patron in his difficult phase: “I had a lot of important conversations with him. He was always there for me.”
The national player has been under contract with Bayern since 2018 and has won six German championships, two DFB Cup victory and a Champions League victory with the German industry leader to date.
