Metallica and “No Repeat”

Since the start of the “M72 World Tour”, Metallica has been pursuing a no-repeat principle: two evenings, two completely different setlists. For the concerts 2026 in Frankfurt, Zurich and Berlin, the following applies: Those who cannot come on both evenings have to set priorities.

We have looked at the setlists of the double shows of the last time-specifically the shows in Seattle (August 30 and September 1, 2024), Edmonton (23rd and 25th August 2024), Toronto (April 24 and 26, 2025), Nashville (1st and May 2025) and Columbus (May 9 and 11, 2025)-and tried to answer the following questions, answer the following questions. to get:

  • On which evening are there the big hits “Enter Sandman” and “Nothing Else Matters”?
  • On which evening you get most pieces of the latest album “72 Seasons”?
  • And what days are the better for old school fans-for everyone who hope for songs from “Master of Puppets” or “Ride the Lightning”?

Metallica: Then “Nothing Else Matters” and “Enter Sandman” are played

Already clear: real fans are not only because of “Enter Sandman” or “Nothing Else Matters”. But still – for many who have never seen the band live, maybe exactly these songs are on the goatlist.

“Nothing Else Matters” was only played on the first evening for all five analyzed double shows. So the tendency clearly shows that if you want to experience this song live, you should rather make day one.

“Enter Sandman”, on the other hand, was played on each of the analyzed double shows on the second evening. Here, too, there is a clear pattern: If you are waiting for this moment, you have to rely on day two.

Metallica and No Repeat – the new songs

The current studio album “72 Seasons” is an integral part of both evenings. A total of six different songs were played in all five double shows – so that no repetitions were necessary. In Toronto, Seattle, Edmonton and Nashville, three different pieces were used on both evenings. Only in Columbus the setlist was a bit slimmer on the second evening, where only two new songs were played.

The distribution shows that if you hope for new material, you can choose both evenings. Regardless of whether “72 Seasons”, “Lux Æterna”, “Screaming Suicide”, “Shadows Follow”, “If Darkness Had a Son”, “Too Far Gone?” Or “Inamorata” – they all rotate reliably through the program. A clear case of: no wrong decision possible.

Metallica and No Repeat – these days should choose fans of “Master of Puppets” and “Ride the Lightning”

Anyone who hopes for many of the metallica back catalog, which is the highlight of the two mentioned albums, will also get a statistical direction here. Songs from “Ride the Lightning” were played in four out of five cities only on the first evening – including “Creeping Death” and “Fight Fire with Fire” (Toronto), “Ride the Lightning” (Nashville) or again “Creeping Death” (Seattle, Edmonton). Only in Columbus did a song slip out of the album to the second evening ..

The focus is also on the first evening with the songs of “Master of Puppets”. Metallica played three “Leper Messiah”, “Orion” and “Master of Puppets” in Seattle. Edmonton was served “Orion” and “Master”. The title track appeared in Nashville and Columbus – also on day one. Toronto shows a balanced distribution. “Orion” came there on the first evening, while on the second evening both “Battery” and “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” were played.

We don’t want to skip a song from another album, “… and Justice for All”: “One” was played on four out of five shows on the second evening – only in Edmonton the song came on day 1.

Metallica and No Repeat – Opener and Closer

Every evening there is “It’s a long way to the top (if you wanna rock ‘n’ roll)” by AC/DC and “The Ecstasy of Gold” by Ennio Morricone. At the opener there were finally patterns on the last five double shows.

In four of the five-analyzed double shows, the first played metallica song was either “Creeping Death” (Seattle, Toronto, Columbus) or “Whiplash” (Edmonton) on the first evening. In Nashville it was “for whom the Bell Tolls”. On day 2, however, the band varied more.

At the end, the matter is obvious: for all five double shows, “Enter Sandman” was always the last song of the second evening. The first evening, on the other hand, mostly ends with “Seek & Destroy” (Seattle, Toronto, Columbus, Nashville), only in Edmonton it was “Master of Puppets”.
