With many new faces, the Germany eight wants to attack in the top of the world in the first year after the Olympic Games.

“We were fourth in Paris, now we want to attack and press our stamps on the races. A World Cup medal is the goal with the eighth,” said national coach Sabine Tchaumen when presenting the flagship of the German rowing association (DRV) on Thursday.

Compared to the previous year, five new rowers come to the parade boat. Sönke Kruse and Julius Christ as well as the Youngster Tobias Strangemann (20) and Paul Klapperich (22) are moving into the eighth, Theis Hagemeister becomes new bat. Olaf Roggensack, Benedict Eggeling, Mattes Schönherr and helmsman Jonas Wiesen.

Rowing: Germany eight with new trainer for new ones

On the other hand, Torben Johannesen (family reasons), Frederik Breuer (study in the USA) and Laurits (advanced training) are not available from the Olympic eight of Paris.

There is also a new face in the coaching team. Mark Emke (65), former success coach of the Dutch roller, has been forming a double tip with CCHAATEN since the end of February. The season highlight are the World Championships in Shanghai (September 21 to 28), the European Championship in Plowdiw (May 29 to June 1) in Bulgarian.

There, the German eighth meets Olympic champion Great Britain and the Olympic second of the Netherlands.

The preparation for the summer games 2028 in Los Angeles begins this year. In the previous year, the flagship had not won an Olympic medal for the first time since 2008, and after a change as a result of Tokyo’s games, the young team had to accept setbacks again and again on their way to Paris.
