Do you have to experiment with our Brabant pride, the sausage roll? Domino’s Pizza ventures into it and comes with a pizza sausage roll. The idea for the pizza comes from YouTuber Robbie van de Graaf, known from the bankers, from Eindhoven. Every banker was allowed to come up with his own pizza and Robbie wanted a pizza that brought an ode to his Brabant roots. We have the pizza tested by Pim Filius from Dongen, baker of the tastiest Brabant sausage roll.

“I have a bit of my doubts,” says the winner of the annual election of the tastiest Brabant sausage roll from Omroep Brabant. “How do you get a nice sausage roll on a pizza?”, The born Zeeland wonders while standing in front of a closed pizza box.

Pim opens the box and first responds to the appearance of the pizza. “I don’t recognize it immediately,” he says. “Oh yes, now I see it. There are small pieces of sausage on it. There is something on each tip.” The bottom is covered with curry sauce and there are also small pieces of sausage bread in the crust.

Nice and nice what it looks like, but it’s about the taste. Pim takes a bite. “There are tastier pizzas. The sausage must be well seasoned. These sausages are not. The curry makes up for a lot. But it doesn’t look really tasty,” says the baker. “Don’t do this. Keep it nice with a normal sausage roll. I wouldn’t want to make this like that.”

And so in 2021 a colleague from Pim also thought of the pizza sausage roll with which supermarket chain Jumbo came then, in honor of the company’s centenary anniversary. The maker of the tastiest Brabant sausage roll that year, Bakker Lars van Dongen, was pretty clear about it at the time: “I don’t really like it. Make something different and come up with something really original,” he said. “A sausage roll is a sausage roll. You shouldn’t make a pizza out of it, because then the pizza and the sausage roll is ruined.”

The conclusion after two attempts to make a pizza sausage roll is therefore clear: dear pizza bakers, let our Brabant sausage roll alone!
