Anyone who did not take their place in the Olympic Stadium in time on this sunny Friday evening was punished. It only took 22 seconds for Hertha Fabian Reese to appear in the Magdeburg penalty area for the first time. Exactly a minute later he came to his first degree, but swilved the ball next to the guests’ goal.

Magdeburg didn’t want to let that sit on him. Marcus Mathisen by head as well as Baris Atik and Livan Burcu with the foot gained a long distance from Hertha keeper Tjark Ernst. All of this happened until the seventh minute of the game.

Magdeburg dominates possession of the ball

Hertha’s coach Stefan Leitl had already predicted what happened afterwards: “We will have to suffer a bit in the game against the ball because they are very ball -safe. But I think that Magdeburg also has respect for us and our strengths.” The ball ran through the rows of the guests more often, but the FCM took a little less risk than usual.

Also because Reese and Maza in particular searched for the depths after every Berlin ball win. Although the game was not surprising, both teams always came to promising positions. Of course, the chances were not – until the final phase of the first half.

Two goals in three minutes

It was reminiscent of the initial phase. This time Magdeburg presented and scored the first goal of the evening in the 44th minute. After a long pass on the left side, Linus Gechter Alexander Nollenberger willingly left the ball at the Berlin Corp. The advanced full -back Lubambo Musonda shot from 15 meters. Slightly deflected, the ball found its way into the goal and ensured great jubilation among the 15,000 guest fans who traveled.

The cheers didn’t last long. In the second minute of stoppage, Michael Cuisance played a free kick in front of the Magdeburg Tor. Gechter, who had just clung, headed. The 1: 1 for the break was a fair result for the gripping first half.

After the break, the game calms down

After the break, Magdeburg took over the ball again, Hertha lurked on counterattack. Magdeburg offered opportunities through Amaechi (54.) and Burcu (59th) through shots from the box corners. Atik also appeared twice in the penalty area. In the 67th minute in particular, he struggled with his degree. From eight meters he shot past the gate free -standing.

Because the Magdeburg Reese had well under control over long distances, the Berliners rarely became dangerous. Only the substitution of Florian Niederlechner caused a new momentum. After a long-range shot (71.) and a header after Reese flank (73.), the Olympic Stadium caught. Was there anything else for Hertha?

Final phase with a great chance

Magdeburg made the game in the final phase, but had problems to prevail against Hertha’s well -formed defensive. When Nollenberger headed Hertha’s Tor from a short distance in the 89th minute, he only came to the ball using his health. The Magdenurger hit Jonjoe Kennys shoulder. Gersch’s brilliant parade should not go unmentioned. He saved the point for his team. Otherwise the header in the Kreuzeck would have been hit.
