Ex-master before relegation from the Bundesliga

In the women’s Bundesliga, it has been emerging for months which team has the slightest chance of relegation. Soon there could be certainty.
The 1st FFC Turbine Potsdam became champion in the women’s Bundesliga six times. In the eternal table, the club from Brandenburg is even in first place. But the present looks less glamorous. Turbine is in the last place after 19 game days with just one point. The club missed the last chance to stay in the league on Saturday: Turbine lost to Carl Zeiss Jena (0: 1). With a Potsdam victory, the clubs would only have separated three points. Jena is now nine points ahead.
The penultimate in the table is the 1st FC Köln, who is a guest in Leverkusen (from 6 p.m.) this Monday evening. Cologne has eight points in the account, more than turbine. In a Cologne victory, Potsdam’s descent would be almost certain. Three game days before the end, Turbine would have nine points behind the penultimate from Jena. Jena’s goal difference is minus 28, but Minus 58 from Potsdam.
In view of the fact that the Brandenburg women only scored four goals and scored a point, it would be unlikely to be able to catch up on Jena. Especially because Potsdam still plays against Leverkusen (fourth place) and Wolfsburg (second place).
Even with a Cologne defeat against Leverkusen, a Potsdam descent is difficult to prevent and probably only possible purely mathematically. Coach Kurt Russ said before the game against Jena: “Let’s not win it, it’s over.” Defender Bianca Schmidt summed up after the 90 minutes: “The disappointment is huge. We decided to go out here with three points today. And now we’re going out with zero points again. It’s very sobering.”
