The Lithuanian Mykolas Alekna has improved its own world record in the discus throw and was the first person to crack the 75-meter brand.
At the meeting in Ramona/USA, Alekna will have two world record throws on Sunday (April 13, 2025). At first it was 74.89 meters, then even 75.56 meters. The Australian Matt Denny was also extremely strong. His attempt at 74.78 meters was also further than the old world record brand of 74.35 meters.
The German starter Clemens Prüfer and Henrik Janssen also completed strong competitions and each achieved personal best. The examiner came to 71.01 meters, Janssen at 69.94 meters.
Friendly Wind support
“What a ‘little’ wind can make up”, then wrote examiner on Instagram. Because the wind played an important role on Sunday. Six throws cracked the 70 m – more than ever in a competition.
Word has long since got around in the discus scene that madness can take place in Ramona. The 500-inhabitant town is called “Throw Town”, the conditions for the athletes are perfect. Plattes land around the discus ring, a few shrubs, a grove on the horizon. On the internet videos from the throws, the wind whistles into the microphones.
The right wind could already bring “three to five meters”, Jürgen Schult had told the SID after Alekna decreased the world record last year.
