Intersport International Corporation GmbH (IIC) has appointed Tom Foley as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Foley competes with the Commercial Association based in Bern with effect from July 1, said IIC on Thursday. The appointment marks a new chapter of the Intersport Group, since the company confirms its commitment to strategic growth in cooperation with its national associations and brand partners: on the inside.
Foley returns to Intersport
The new IIC boss has experience in the competitive international markets and a deep understanding of the sporting goods industry, according to the message. He comes from the French sports dealer Go Sport, where he recently led a chain and a network of international franchise companies as CEO. Before that, he headed the business for the Middle East of the company and was active for the French sneaker chain Courir. He is also the founder of the Independent Sports Retailer’s Alliance in Ireland, which he headed from September 2005 to January 2011.
It is also not the first time for Foley that he works for Intersport. He was at the head of the National Association for the United Kingdom and Ireland for six years.
“I look forward to returning to Intersport and leading the group to this next phase of transformation and growth,” said Tom Foley. “It will be a privilege on the rich and long -standing legacy of the support and promotion of our local entrepreneurs: to build inside the industry in our various international markets.”
In his new position, he is intended to focus on strengthening the global network of Intersport, increasing operational efficiency and consolidating the position as a “leading partner” for its strategic brands, according to the message. In addition, he should work for the accelerated development of the company brand and own brands as well as for the management of the global transformation of the Intersport Group.
“The IIC board is confident that Tom’s vision, leadership qualities and his strong collaborative way of thinking of the Intersport Group will bring new impulses and innovations,” said IIC-Chairman Corinne Gensisen. “This marks an important new phase in the strategic growth of Intersport, as we work closely with our partners and national associations to continue to offer our customers: inside in 42 different markets.”
The appointment of the new CEO follows the announcement of the results for the 2024 financial year, which ICC has completed with a increase in sales despite adverse framework. The global omnichannel revenues had reached a height of 14.0 billion euros and thus exceeded the previous year’s level by 2.1 percent. At the end of 2024, ICC had 5,464 shops in 42 countries.
