6.2 magnitude earthquake causes property damage in Guatemala | Abroad

The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale, according to the US Geological Institute. The epicenter was in the coastal district of Escuintla, about 100 kilometers from the capital Guatemala City. The hypocenter was at a depth of 84 kilometers.

In contrast, the local authorities reported a strength of 6.8. The powerful jolt was also followed by a 4.8 magnitude quake, it said. Emergency services said the quake caused subsidence on roads and limited damage to homes. There were also power cuts here and there.

So far, no casualties have been reported.
