The Eisbären Berlin have ended their small phase of weakness in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and successfully defended their lead in the table.

On Wednesday evening, the German champions won 4:3 (3:1, 1:1, 0:1) at ERC Ingolstadt. Yannick Veilleux, Manuel Wiederer, Marcel Noebels and Leonhard Pföderl scored for the Berliners, who had previously lost three games in a row.

The polar bears started extremely effectively in front of empty ranks in the Ingolstadt Arena: Veilleux and Wiederer, who had returned to the team after Covid infections, immediately converted the first two chances to score. The hosts were able to shorten the gap with a goal from Jerome Flaake, but Noebels responded before the first break with his 100th DEL goal when the Berliners played with a majority for the first time.

In the second third, the polar bears determined the game for a long time. Pföderl extended the lead with a long-range shot, but Ingolstadt came back through a goal from Davis Koch. After Wayne Simpson even scored the goal in the final section, the Berliners had to worry about the three points again.

In the end, the polar bears saved the narrow success but with great effort over time.
