3rd league: Bayreuth loses against leaders

Status: 11/08/2022 10:13 p.m

After the last two unbeaten games, SpVgg Bayreuth loses at home against SV Elversberg and is denied a hand penalty. Due to the defeat, the Upper Franconia remain on a direct relegation zone.

The hosts got off to a convincing and courageous start, but after a few minutes the league leaders took control of the game and put the old towners in their place. The Elversbergers came up with several smaller opportunities, but they were not compelling enough. In the middle of the first half it was quite easy when Nick Woltemade used a perfect cross pass from Fellhauer to take the lead (19th). The home side’s defense didn’t look perfect.

Despite this, the Bayreuth team continued to make their mark, but failed to score any goals worth mentioning. In between, the guests were lucky, because Florian Heft missed a clear handball from Piechowski, for whom there should have been a penalty (23rd). Bayreuth’s Nollenberger wanted to put the ball past the defender on the left in the penalty area, but Elversberger’s hand prevented this.

Harmless second half

The second half also offered few spectacular scenes. The hosts showed themselves fighting, but could not create any chances. So the Elversbergers played it solidly, worthy of a table leader. Bayreuth’s mini-series is over and the Upper Franconians remain with 13 points in the bottom of the table in the third division. The guests from Elversberg pull away with the victory in the table. The lead over second place is now eight points. The Munich Lions want to shorten this morning in the top game at SC Freiburg II.
