SV Waldhof Mannheim has released head coach Bernhard Trares. In addition, the association announced on Wednesday that Gerhard Zuber will be new sports managing director.

Large chairs at the crisis club in Mannheim: Gerhard Zuber becomes the new sports director and a former Bundesliga goalkeeper is coming to the club. The trainer, on the other hand, has to go. One day after the sobering 0-2 defeat against SpVgg Unterhaching, further far-reaching personnel decisions were made at the third division soccer team SV Waldhof Mannheim.

First, the traditional club announced Gerhard Zuber’s commitment as a new sports manager, then the exemption from coach Bernhard Trares. Trares “invested a lot of time and energy in the club” and identified itself with the Waldhof, “said President Bernd Beetz. “However, due to the sporting development and the current situation in the relegation battle, we decided to carry out a sporting restart.” The 59-year-old Trares had only returned to Mannheim as a coach in September. The club wants to decide promptly on its successor.

Mathias Schober becomes sports director

It is already clear that Zuber as managing director, together with Mathias Schober, who hires as a sports director, should keep the Kurpfälzer from the threat of crashing into the regional league and lead them to a better future. “We have some tasks that we have to tackle in the near future,” said Zuber, who was once a sports director at FC Schalke 04 and Hannover 96. “First of all, however, the full focus is on relegation this season.”

The 49-year-old Austrian is an “absolute specialist who has strategic competence and an excellent network in professional football,” said President Bernd Beetz. Just like Zuber, Schober was under contract for a long time – once as a Bundesliga goalkeeper, later in the responsible position in the offspring. The Mannheimers started the season with great ambitions, but six game days before the end are only one point before the relegation places. On Tuesday they lost to the bottom of Unterhaching. Previously, they had announced the separation from their previous sporting director Anthony Leviso.
