F95 undefeated under Thioune
Werder Bremen, of all things, made it back to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga by beating arch-rivals Hamburger SV. In the end, the guests won a gripping northern derby, which was characterized by various video evidence decisions, somewhat happily 3:2 (1:0).
In front of 25,000 fans, Marvin Ducksch (10th penalty, 76th) and Niclas Füllkrug (51st penalty) scored for Werder, who were undefeated in their ninth game under coach Ole Werner. Jonas Meffert’s (46′) and Robert Glatzel’s (80′) goals couldn’t prevent HSV’s first home defeat. Werder (45 points) now leads the table ahead of Darmstadt 98, FC St. Pauli (44 each) and HSV (41).

The guests acted offensively, disturbed HSV early on and were successful. Leonardo Bittencourt’s headed goal didn’t count because of offside. But since Ömer Toprak hit Meffert in the hand when he tried to shoot, video evidence showed that there was a controversial penalty, which Ducksch used to score his 14th goal of the season. Bremen should have taken a higher lead, but Bittencourt (30′) and Ducksch (33′) were unable to beat the strong keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes free-standing.
After the change, the VAR festival continued. The equalizer counted despite the suspicion of offside, after which referee Daniel Siebert only recognized Bakéry Jatta’s handball on the screen – this time Füllkrug stayed cool from the point. Then it went back and forth: Ducksch raised, Glatzel shortened again. In the end, however, Bremen, who had been better for a long time, celebrated, who were able to take revenge for the 0:2 defeat in the first leg. Manuel Wintzheimer’s 3:3 (90+5) rightly didn’t count because of offside.
