2nd league – Thioune’s debut is successful: Fortuna Düsseldorf turns game against Schalke

FCI scoreless against SVS

Khaled Narey gave Daniel Thioune a victory on his debut as coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf and gave FC Schalke 04 a severe setback in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. The outstanding offensive player, already a player at Hamburger SV Thiounes, turned the game around in a 2-1 (0-1) win for Fortuna in the western duel with a goal (47th) and an assist for Rouwen Hennings (56th). Nevertheless, Düsseldorf, which signed Thioune as Christian Preusser’s successor on Tuesday, remains on the relegation place. Schalke, who took the lead through Blendi Idrizi (42nd), are now four points behind in fifth place on a direct promotion spot.

Thioune had chosen a courageous line-up and relied on the experienced duo of Hennings (34) and Daniel Ginczek (30) from the start, while Narey and Shinta Appelkamp kept coming up on the outside. Fortuna was also clearly the better team: Ginczek hit the crossbar (9th). But then Schalke, who had been tough until then, scored the goal through Idrizi after strong preliminary work by Rodrigo Zalazar.

SV Darmstadt 98 has lost the lead in the second division. A week after the 0: 5 debacle against Hamburger SV, without coach Torsten Lieberknecht, who tested positive for the corona virus, it was only enough for a 2: 2 (1: 1) draw at Hannover 96.

When referee Felix Zwayer made a comeback after a break of more than two months, the “Lilies” took the lead in the 18th minute through an own goal by Sebastian Stolze. The unlucky man slipped into the line-up shortly before kick-off due to an injury to his team-mate Sebastian Ernst. Goals from Cedric Teuchert (35′) and Julian Börner (50′) gave the game a deserved turnaround. Even Aaron Seydel’s equalizer (61st) didn’t prevent Darmstadt from falling back to fourth place in the table.

Bottom of the table FC Ingolstadt missed out on the much-needed home win in the relegation battle. A week after the brilliant 5-0 win at 1. FC Nürnberg, the Schanzer only managed a disappointing 0-0 draw against their rivals SV Sandhausen on Sunday. For Ingolstadt (14 points) the draw was a defeat. Sandhausen defended the saving 15th place in the table, the advantage of ten points on the Oberbayern.

After the hard yellow-red card for midfielder Hans Nunoo Sarpei because of repeated foul play (72nd), Ingolstadt had to run out in front of 4247 spectators in the final phase. Coach Rüdiger Rehm had to rebuild his successful team from Nuremberg anyway because of some suspected cases of illness and corona. After warming up, newcomer Valmir Sulejmani also had to pass. In the second half, the attacker surprisingly ran up.
