Trembled to victory
Thanks to a double blow against Eintracht Braunschweig, Hamburger SV has consolidated second place and increased Lower Saxony’s relegation worries in the 2nd Bundesliga. However, coach Tim Walter’s team had a harder time than expected against the second-to-last team in the 2-1 (2-0) win on Friday evening after the break, but they defended their home series of seven wins in seven games.
A week before the city duel against league leaders FC St. Pauli, Guilherme Ramos (25th minute) and former Braunschweiger Immanuel Pherai (26th) scored within 69 seconds. Fabio Kaufmann (62nd) scored the next goal. Unfortunately for him and the guests: his supposed equalizing goal in the 74th minute was disallowed for offside.
HSV caught up on points with FC St. Pauli, who play at Hansa Rostock on Saturday (1:00 p.m./Sky). The Braunschweigers, with no points away from home, are still deep in the relegation battle.

In front of 55,879 spectators in the Volksparkstadion, the Hanseatic League dominated before the break. After a short corner, Jean-Luc Dompé crossed into the penalty area, where Ramos scored with a header to take the deserved lead. In the very next attack, Robert Glatzel served the free-standing Pherai, who hit the left corner with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.
After the change, HSV completely lost its rhythm and played too passively. Kaufmann brought Braunschweig back into the game with a powerful shot from almost 20 meters. But the guests were no longer able to surprise.
2:2 after 0:2: Hannover 96 shows morale in the promotion race of the 2nd league
Hannover 96 scored an important point in the promotion race. After a 2-0 deficit, the new third-place team fought for a 2-2 (0-2) draw against Hertha BSC on Friday evening. Florian Niederlechner (29th minute) and Pascal Klemens (45th) deservedly put the initially convincing Berliners in the lead. Havard Nielsen (67th) and Andreas Voglsammer (80th) equalized for Lower Saxony.
As a result, the first division relegated team from Berlin missed out on getting within two points of promotion candidates Hannover. For Hertha it was the third unnecessary draw in a row. In these three games, coach Pál Dárdai’s team dropped six important points.
Among the 45,000 spectators in the Heinz von Heiden Arena, more than 10,000 cheered on Hertha. Hannover played very incorrectly for a long time. At the back, the 96ers invited Berlin’s best Fabian Reese to have two good chances early on (12th/16th). At the front they acted too unfocused and rushed.
The hosts only improved in the second half. Hertha now became too passive and no longer defended stably. The 1:2 by Nielsen was preceded by a solo by defender Phil Neumann across half the pitch.
