2nd league
Hamburg (dpa) – Hamburger SV has saved its last chance to return to the Bundesliga.
In the second division catch-up game against FC Erzgebirge Aue, coach Tim Walter’s team celebrated a deserved 4-0 (2-0) home win and, after five games in a row without a win, scored a threesome again. In front of 22,000 spectators, Robert Glatzel (14th), Sonny Kittel (45th + 1), Moritz Heyer (75th) and Ludovit Reis (83rd) scored for HSV, which reduced the gap to the relegation place to six points. For the penultimate Aue, however, the situation in the table cellar is becoming increasingly hopeless.
“We now have to think from game to game and then see what comes out of it in the end,” midfielder Jonas Meffert told Sky TV after the one-sided match. “If we manage to catch up with Holstein Kiel at the weekend, then we might still have a small chance of promotion,” added the ex-Kieler.
Three days after the 1:2 home defeat against SC Paderborn, the Hanseatic League showed from the start that they wanted to attack again. Driven by the recently sharply criticized “head” Kittel, the attacks rolled towards the Auer goal, in which Martin Männel had no chance with Glatzel’s header after a Kittel cross. On the other hand, the keeper didn’t look good at Kittel’s flutter ball, which hit almost in the middle to make it 2-0. While HSV missed further good chances, only Dimitrij Nazarov tested HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes (39′) before the break.
After the change, the guests became a little braver, but remained too harmless in the end. HSV then took over more and more command after a good hour, but Glatzel, Josha Vagnoman with a double chance (70th) and Ludovit Reis (73rd) had no luck at the end. One day after his 27th birthday, Heyer made everything clear with his sixth goal of the season. Reis also scored for HSV, who celebrated their first win in April in their fourth year in the second division.
