Braunschweig’s streak continues
Hamburger SV has overcome its earnings crisis in the chasing duel at SC Paderborn and is back in the middle of the promotion battle. After three games without a win, the Hanseatic League came to a 3-2 (2-1) win over East Westphalia in a top-class game. Due to their defeat, Paderborn missed out on displacing Darmstadt 98 (29 points) from the top of the table. The first pursuer of the Hessen is now the HSV (28) in front of the SCP (26).
In front of 15,000 fans, Robert Leipertz (3rd/51st minute) scored twice for the hosts. But that wasn’t enough. Robert Glatzel (23rd) with his eighth goal of the season, the outstanding Jean-Luc Dompé (45th + 1) and László Bénes (69th) made the important victory for Hamburg perfect.
Paderborn got off to a better start. As in previous games, the HSV defense wobbled without their captain Sebastian Schonlau, who was suspended. Thanks to Leipertz, the hosts took advantage of one of the uncertainties early on. It took the guests some time to catch up. But Hamburg’s first decent attack brought the equalizer through Glatzel.

Coach Tim Walter’s team dominated the game and took the lead in a wild final phase in the first half. A minute before Dompé’s goal, Hamburg missed a triple chance, in return Paderborn’s Sirlord Conteh hit the crossbar.
After the change, Paderborn stabilized again. Again it was Leipertz who scored. What followed was an open exchange of blows with opportunities on both sides. Bénes (69th) used a new lead for the Hanseatic League. Paderborn then tried everything to equalize, but HSV successfully defended themselves.
After beating KSC, Hannover 96 keeps up with promotion places
Hannover 96 has reduced the distance to the promotion relegation place. Lower Saxony won 1-0 (0-0) against Karlsruher SC, who were outnumbered in the last half hour. Coach Stefan Leitl’s team is fifth in the table, two points behind third place with SC Paderborn. For the guests it was the fourth competitive defeat in a row.
Hendrik Weydandt headed the opening goal (56th minute) for Lower Saxony and thus scored his first goal of the season. The guests then weakened themselves: Jérqome Gondorf received yellow-red shortly after going behind (62nd). With two quick reactions, 96 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler fended off two chances for Karlsruhe shortly before the end of the game.
The Badeners were slightly superior in the first half. The ex-Hanoverian Marcel Franke caused a penalty kick with a foul against Maximilian Beier, but Havard Nielsen failed to KSC goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (43rd). A collision with Hanover’s Max Besuschkow ended the debut of KSC midfielder Leon Jensen after almost 20 minutes.
Four goals after the break: Eintracht Braunschweig’s series lasts in Sandhausen
SV Sandhausen and the newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig have separated 2:2 (0:0). Anthony Ujah (52nd minute) and Anton Donkor (74th) gave the guests from Lower Saxony, who are unbeaten in eight league games, twice the lead. Janik Bachmann (66th) and David Kinsombi (80th) equalized twice for Sandhausen, who remained without a win in their third league game in a row, in front of 4,729 fans.
The first half was poor in highlights. In the 24th minute, Braunschweig’s Ujah ran freely towards Sandhausen’s keeper Nikolai Rehnen and lobbed the ball past the goal on the left. The striker was just offside anyway. Just before the break, Kinsombi missed the hosts’ best chance to date and hit the post with a header (41′).
A few minutes after the break, Ujah headed in to give Braunschweig the lead. Another goal by the Nigerian was ruled out due to an offside position (55′). Bachmann also scored a header in the 1-1. Eight minutes later Donkor hammered the ball halfway into the net from almost 20 meters. But Sandhausen hit back again: Kinsombi pushed the ball over the line from close range to make it 2:2.
