With a lot of effort, Hamburger SV reached the round of 16 in the DFB Cup. The second division team only beat third division team Arminia Bielefeld 4:3 (1:1, 1:1, 0:1) on penalties.
At Arminia, veteran Fabian Klos took the first shot and missed. He shot the ball well over the goal. HSV keeper Matheo Raab parried Bielefeld’s last attempt by Marius Wörl. Elijah Krahn’s missed shot had no consequences for HSV.
Fighting game in the pouring rain
The extra time ended without any highlights. Hamburger SV found no means at all to crack Bielefeld’s good defense and played rather unimaginatively. On the other hand, Arminia limited themselves to a few counterattacks, which also fizzled out.
After 90 minutes the score was 1-1 in pouring rain on the Bielefelder Alm. Arminia played courageously and refreshingly from the start and took the lead undeservedly through Nicklas Shipnoski (11th).
HSV was better in terms of play and pushed Bielefeld in front of the goal, especially in the second half. But it wasn’t enough for more than the goal from substitute Bakery Jatta (77′).
Bielefeld’s goalkeeper Kersken is in outstanding form
The second division team from the north previously missed a number of good opportunities. However, Bielefeld’s goalkeeper Jonas Kerksen was in outstanding form and repeatedly ruined HSV’s good chances.
Medical emergency before extension
The extension could only begin after a delay of several minutes because there was a medical emergency in the spectator area of the stadium. A spectator in the main stand had to be treated by doctors from both clubs. It was initially not known what the reason for the medical intervention was. Emergency services shielded the person with blankets. After a few minutes, the spectator was carried out of the stadium on a stretcher.
