2nd Bundesliga | HSV is happy: zero number between St. Pauli and Fortuna

FC St. Pauli and Fortuna Düsseldorf robbed each other of what was probably their last chance to get involved in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. The former first division teams drew 0-0 and are each three points behind Hamburger SV in the relegation zone.

However, the Rothosen can pull away to six points from relegation candidate Jahn Regensburg (1:30 p.m. / Sky) on Sunday and practically secure at least third place before the last two matchdays.

“It’s clear that we would have needed a win here,” said St. Pauli captain Leart Paqarada on the “Sky” microphone: “But you could see who was the better team. We thought that the Düsseldorfers were more here would play along.”

St. Pauli seized their last chance more courageously and gained a clear advantage in front of 29,546 spectators at the Millerntor. However, the big chances didn’t materialize – until Marcel Hartel put the ball on the crossbar in injury time in the first half.

Dusseldorf appeared without ideas for a long time, even from standard situations, the Rhinelanders could create little danger. But then the guests were suddenly very close to taking the lead: Substitute Jona Niemiec fired in the 68th minute, and the home-grown player’s shot was deflected off the crossbar.
