Schonlau-Red paves victory
Ironically, city rivals FC St. Pauli stopped Hamburger SV in the 2nd Bundesliga and ended its own crisis in one fell swoop. In the explosive and heated 108th city derby, the Kiezklub deservedly won 3-0 (0-0) against their big neighbors on Friday evening. HSV was outnumbered for more than an hour after captain Sebastian Schonlau received a red card (28′) because of an emergency brake against Etienne Amenyido.
Eric Smith (61st), Marcel Hartel (74th) and David Otto (89th) scored in front of 29,205 fans in the sold-out Millerntor Stadium for a brown and white party atmosphere and the end of the seven-game winning streak. League leaders HSV conceded their first defeat after seven games and after eight wins in a season away from home.
FC St. Pauli was the more conspicuous team from the start and created more top chances. Amenyido (16th) failed at HSV keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, just before the end of the first half Igor Matanovic pointed the ball at the post. HSV did not cope well with the early disruption of the opponent, the only clear finish came from Ludovit Reis (11th). But the best coverage of the 2nd Bundesliga up to that point was mostly safe. The dismissal of Schonlaus did not change that.
After the change, the hosts tried to make better use of the numerical plus. At times they pushed HSV well into its half. But only Smith’s headed goal after a corner kick and Hartel rewarded FC St. Pauli for their effort. Otto set the final point (89th).

Before the risk game, a police operation had caused a stir. The police had taken several supporters of FC St. Pauli into custody. A video circulating on Twitter shows one such detention, in which a police officer uses coercion in the form of physical violence. “It is necessary to check whether proportionality has been observed,” the police said on Twitter. The video shows several people being pinned to the ground by police officers. One officer beat a man lying on the ground, including his head, while another pinned his legs. FC St. Pauli called for clarification.
Greuther Fürth misses decision – bitter 2:2 against Hansa Rostock
SpVgg Greuther Fürth suffered another low blow against a rustic Hansa Rostock shortly before the final whistle. The Franks didn’t let themselves be put off by the rough play of the guests at 2: 2 (1: 0). A penalty kick by Ryan Malone (90+3) that was converted immediately before the end robbed the dismayed Franconians of their second win of the season. After the third draw in a row at the start of the 12th matchday, coach Marc Schneider’s team climbed to 15th place in the table.
Fürth captain Branimir Hrgota (20th minute) scored the lead in front of 10,516 fans. A clearance attempt by Damian Roßbach landed right in front of his feet, Hrgota hammered the ball into the goal from 17 meters. A long-range shot by the striker (36′) later crashed against the crossbar, and from close range he also failed (45’+6′) at keeper Markus Kolke.
Lukas Fröde’s equalizer (57′) made up for it with a header from Ragnar Ache (60′) after a wonderful cross from Simon Asta. After yellow-red against John Verhoek (62nd), Afimico Pululu (88th) missed the big chance to make it 3-1 shortly before the end. In return, Malone shocked the home side.
The Franconians were lucky that the initially powerful guests did not take the lead. Verhoek’s (10′) header from six meters straight at the man was able to defuse goalkeeper Andreas Linde. After an unfortunate direct collision with a header, Rostock’s Nico Neidhart and Anderson Lucoqui were treated for minutes on the lawn. The two full-backs then had to leave the field prematurely.
