2nd Bundesliga: Darmstadt beats HSV, 96 wins in Magdeburg

4 red cards in Hamburg

Promotion favorite Hamburger SV has suffered its second home defeat. The North Germans lost in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga against SV Darmstadt 98 2:1 (0:2) on Friday evening and thus extended their negative series against the Hessians. Even in their fifth year in the second division, coach Tim Walter’s team failed to win at home against Darmstadt (3 defeats, 2 draws). Ex-HSVer Patric Pfeiffer (4th minute) and Phillip Tietz (7th) caused a sensitive double strike against Hamburg in the starting phase. Ransford Königsdörfer scored the late goal (87th). There were four red cards in the game.

The Darmstadt team initially had to do without Klaus Gjasula because he received a second yellow card (59′). For the hosts, Aaron Opoku was sent off just eight minutes after he was substituted on for a kick against Fabian Holland (64th). Königsdörffer (89th) also saw red because of an assault. The protesting HSV sports director Jonas Boldt also had to accept the red card and switch to the stands.

The previously strong defense of Hamburg with the safe ex-Darmstadt player Daniel Heuer Fernandes in goal, who had only conceded one goal in four games, was almost run over at the beginning. The fast switching game of the “Lilien”, who attacked the ball-carrying Hamburg early on, presented the hosts with big problems in front of 43,943 spectators. The hosts used their ball possession football, but mostly had to play wide against the well-positioned and poisonous Darmstadt defense and rarely had chances to score. In the hectic second half, the North Germans couldn’t get past the goal.

Hannover 96 celebrates a sovereign away win at 1. FC Magdeburg

Hannover 96 has continued its upward trend in the 2nd Bundesliga with great help from 1. FC Magdeburg. Unfazed by the fuss surrounding managing director Martin Kind, the Lower Saxony team prevailed 4-0 (2-0) on Friday evening after a spirited performance.

Maximilian Beier (14th minute) and Luka Krajnc (44th) scored the first two goals, helped by blatant defensive errors. Sei Muroya (56th) and Cedric Teuchert (90th + 1) ensured the final score in front of 23,908 spectators at the start of the fifth game day. Coach Stefan Leitl’s 96 selection improved to eighth place with their second win of the season. Magdeburg is stuck in 16th place after the third home defeat.

FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann had just clarified excellently against Beier when Andreas Müller and Silas Gnaka involuntarily hung up again for the Hanover attacker. When Krajnc headed the goal, Reimann cut an unfortunate figure with a half-hearted fist defence. In the second half, Magdeburg pressed for the goal, when Muroya completed a counterattack worth seeing to decide. Joker Teuchert added in added time.
