2. Bundesliga: HSV stays close to Darmstadt, 96 also loses at FCSP

Meet Rice & Nemeth

Hamburger SV has secured its promotion spot in the 2nd Bundesliga and increased Hansa Rostock’s worries about relegation. HSV prevailed 2-0 (1-0) in the north duel against the Mecklenburgers on Sunday. Ludovit Reis (40′) and András Nemeth scored the goals for the deserved success in overtime. The Hamburgers stay close to the first Darmstadt 98 in the table, but at the same time increased the gap to the third 1. FC Heidenheim to four points. After the second defeat in a row, Hansa is only two points away from the relegation zone.

As expected, Hamburg had the advantage in front of 26,500 spectators in the sold-out Ostseestadion. The ball possession ratio clearly went to them. But the guests could only rarely use that before the break. The Hansa defense with ex-HSV professional Rick van Drongelen as defense chief was safe for a long time. The second harmless offensive in the league (17 goals) also had some good scenes up front. In the beginning, HSV was particularly dangerous because of Jean-Luc Dompé, who was strong at dribbling. In addition, Moritz Heyer drove the game on the right side again and again. Scorer Robert Glatzel, meanwhile, barely got a chance before the break.

The leadership of Hamburg fell happily. The ball flipped in the Rostock defense between Nico Heidhart and van Drongelen and then unintentionally bounced off the Dutchman’s foot to Reis, who overcame goalkeeper Markus Kolke from close range.

The playful and technical superiority of Hamburg became clearer in the second section. Hansa goalkeeper Markus Kolke made a great save from an HSV triple chance. Even though the guests dominated, the Rostock team kept trying. But often the last pass was missing. They were unlucky twice when Svante Ingelsson (68′) and Verhoek (71′) both rightly called off the whistle for offside.

Home win against Hannover 96: St. Pauli jumps into the top half of the table

FC St. Pauli also celebrated an important victory in a 2-0 (2-0) win against Hannover 96. Lukas Daschner (17th) and Connor Metcalfe (27th) scored. After a yellow-red card for Phil Neumann, Hannover played ten men for about half an hour.

The much more active and consistent in front of goal Hamburg also ended the almost 29-year winless series in the Millerntor Stadium against Hannover. For FCSP coach Fabian Hürzeler it is the second win in the second league game after the 1-0 win in Nuremberg last week.

The hosts took the lead in front of 29,456 spectators through Daschner (17th minute) after 96 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler unluckily deflected a shot in the direction of the attacker and Daschner only had to push in. The Australian Metcalfe (27th) increased with a nice flick. However, the goal first had to be confirmed by the video referee and remained controversial afterwards.

In the second half, after the yellow-red card for central defender Phil Neumann in the 61st minute, Hannover was still outnumbered, and the Lower Saxony hardly defended themselves against the impending defeat. A supposed further goal by Daschner was withdrawn after intervention by VAR.

Bottom Magdeburg scores against KSC

In the third game of the day, 1. FC Magdeburg and Karlsruher SC drew 1-1 (0-1). Sebastian Jung’s Karlsruhe goal (3′) was equalized by Daniel Elfadli in the fifth minute of added time. The early leadership played into the hands of the KSC. Magdeburg seemed insecure and didn’t bring much forward in the game. Only in the 44th minute was Gersbeck able to distinguish himself from a shot by Andreas Müller. The Karlsruhe team had the opportunity to increase the score themselves after 19 minutes, but the Magdeburg defense reacted more attentively this time, unlike when it was 0-1.

After the break, Magdeburg put more pressure on them, tried long-distance shots and dangerous set pieces. But the really big chance to equalize didn’t want to arise until the final minute. Also because KSC, who had started without their new centre-forward Budu Siwsiwadse, who had been signed on Tuesday, defended attentively and created good opportunities for themselves through counterattacks. Then Elfadli still scored.
