16 percent fewer unemployed in Flanders in 2021 | Inland

In December, Flanders had 181,792 job seekers. At the end of 2021, there were 16 percent fewer job seekers than in December 2020. That is what Flemish Minister of Work Hilde Crevits (CD&V) reported on Wednesday.

There was a sharp drop of 24 percent, especially among job seekers who have been out of work for less than a year. Youth unemployment (aged 25) is also falling a lot more than average, with a minus of 22 percent. According to the figures of the labor market mediator, the fall in unemployment is also slightly higher among men than among women. Long-term unemployment (+2 years) has barely fallen: -2 percent to 69,148 people.

The fall in the number of job seekers is an important signal for Minister Crevits. “Many vacancies are still difficult to fill. From the first signals of the new year, we hear that companies want to recruit even more people this year. It is therefore very important that we find a good and workable job through our employment and training measures. for as many job seekers as possible.”
