1. FC Saarbrücken wins German Cup

The table tennis men of 1. FC Saarbrücken have won the German cup competition.

In the Final Four, the Saarlanders, led by Patrick Franziska, prevailed 3-1 in Neu-Ulm in the final against defending champions Borussia Düsseldorf.

The 29-year-old Franziska won his two singles in the final and was the main guarantee for the Saarbrücken triumph.

For the Düsseldorf team, who had to do without the injured Timo Boll, it was the first loss of the season ever. Boll is still suffering from an abdominal muscle injury that had affected him at the World Cup in the United States.

In the semifinals, Saarbrücken prevailed 3-2 against Post SV Mühlhausen. Düsseldorf had clearly won 3-0 against TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell.
