1. FC Nuremberg wins and passes HSV

Hamburger SV has lost further ground in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Tim Walter’s team lost 2-1 (1-1) at 1. FC Nürnberg three days after reaching the semi-finals of the DFB Cup and are six points behind a direct promotion spot with nine games to go.

“You get 1-0 out of nowhere, but we continued to play well. In the end, it’s up to the second half. That hurts incredibly and is very bitter,” said HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau on “Sky”.

The interim equalizer by Ludovit Reis (25th) did not prevent HSV’s fourth defeat of the season. Pascal Köpke (15th) and Tim Handwerker (88th) scored for Nuremberg. With their third win in a row, the Franconians overtook the North Germans and are now fourth.

The encounter picked up speed immediately. After a counterattack, Köpke narrowly missed the early lead (11′), in return Giorgi Tschakwetadze failed at FCN goalkeeper Christian Mathenia (12′). Köpke then dusted off from a short distance, but the guests were only briefly shocked. Reis completed a nice attack to equalize.

Even after the change, both teams were looking for a way forward. Handwerker (58th) found his master in HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes. With two minutes left, Handwerker was the winner. Heuer Fernandes, who became the match winner in the cup quarter-finals during the week against Karlsruher SC on penalties, did not look good.
