Cologne’s defense chief Timo Hübers first had to digest the severe shock of his knee injury, although he is now doing well “according to the circumstances”. The 29-year-old suffered a serious knee injury during FC’s 1-0 defeat in Dortmund on October 25th and subsequently had to undergo an operation.

“I can come back to the Geißbockheim and complete my rehabilitation program. The worst days are behind me,” said Hübers at the “E Levve lang – the talk about FC” event organized by “Express” and “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”.

However, the defender had to struggle with the moment of the injury: “Admittedly, it was quite difficult to process it. I had already had two injuries in everyday training. Now it was completely different in front of 80,000 fans and the level of sympathy. The injury was extremely serious and probably looked nasty when it was repeated, so the sympathy was huge. I was given strong medication in the first aid, then came the operation. It was a mix of psychological and physical shock and it affected me for the first few days swirled around.”

Hübers has played 135 competitive games for the Domstadt team since his arrival in the summer of 2021 (eight goals, two assists). After the setback, he looked forward again: “That’s my nature, it happened, you can’t undo it, and I’m now approaching it positively.” He firmly believes that he will be seen in the Cologne jersey again. “That’s the goal. I’m confident and have a lot in my own hands through hard work. I see myself well prepared,” said Hübers and explained that a contract extension is on the cards: “Yes, Thomas Kessler (sports director; editor) indicated that we would sit down together, even when he visited me in the hospital. He confirmed it again personally at the Geißbockheim. We will discuss this in more detail in due course, there are still a few things on his desk, I’m happy to join in one,” says Hübers.

The defensive man cannot yet provide any information about his exact return. “It’s a serious knee injury. It’s not important when I return. It depends on the knee, there are a few steps to take. I’m focusing on that rather than on any diagnoses.”
