Zwinstreek offers you medieval menus

Thirty tourist entrepreneurs offer a contemporary creation based on ingredients and products from the Middle Ages. Food archaeologist Jeroen van Vaerenbergh and gastronome Marcin Beaufort, together with enthusiastic tastemakers, local growers and catering entrepreneurs, developed many Zwinhavenlekkers, based on archaeological research into hidden medieval ingredients in the Zwin region. A unique opportunity to discover and taste the past.

The Foodarchaeologist experimented with mythical grain of paradise, Syrian rose water, Scandinavian pastries, masteluen flour, spicy beer, forgotten North Sea fish, pickled lemons and many other products that were consumed in the Zwin region during the Middle Ages. Also medieval breads with brewer’s yeast and jams with spices to ice cream with a citrus touch or a cocktail with mackerel extract.

Cyclists and visitors to the Zwin region can discover the dishes and delicacies from 1 June 2022. More information about the cycling route and the participating tastemakers can be found here
