Referee Felix Zwayer probably wants to continue his career in professional football after the excitement about his role in the top Bundesliga game between BVB and FC Bayern Munich (2: 3) in December.
“I have worked through all the issues for my decision,” the “kicker” quoted the 40-year-old as saying. Zwayer was heavily attacked on social media after the game, and later he reported a death threat. This is one of the reasons why the Berliner decided to take a break for the time being.
According to the report, Zwayer’s decision will be announced soon. “But it’s still a gut story. Yes, now you do it, says one side. Only if I try it will I find out how football affects me in the future. If I don’t, maybe later I will say once that I missed this opportunity and I don’t want that,” said Zwayer.
The referee had numerous discussions: “I’ve done all my homework to be able to make a decision. But it’s not yet ready to make this public. That will be the case sooner or later, rather sooner.”
DFB chief referee Lutz Michael Fröhlich said at the end of January that he could not seriously answer the question of whether Zwayer would continue. “I can only tell you that we are working on keeping Felix Zwayer as a referee,” said Fröhlich to the TV channel “Sky”.
