Last year it remained a competition for the most beautifully decorated house on the parade route, where a jury in duos pulled by† But now the party can really start again.

It is obvious that people are interested in it. “Even when the prince was announced last month, we were sold out at the door within fifteen minutes. Then five hundred people could come, so everyone longs for a party,” says Prince Petaqi, behind whom Peter Takken is hiding. This year will be the thirtieth year in a row that he is involved in Carnival Association Het Mask.

Scoop: a spring parade

The carnival parade in Zwaag attracts about fifty thousand people every year: a gigantic spectacle. Normally the parade takes place the last weekend of February, but due to the corona measures still in force at the time, it was decided to take a month to slide forward† “It is therefore for the first time in history a spring carnival, which has never happened before. And if it stays this way, it couldn’t be more beautiful”, Pétaqi looks ahead.

“The only topic of conversation at our house is still carnival”

In December, the green light was given for this year’s edition. pulled head over heels the builders of the floats retreat in the workshops. Normally they started in October. And so it was all hands on deck to be ready for the parade on Sunday afternoon.

Ten thousand percent ready

If it’s up to Lady-in-waiting Kyara, that’s going to be all right. “We are all ten thousand percent ready,” it sounds full-throttle. Carnival is in the ladies-in-waiting genes. “We already walked in our mother’s belly with the parade, so carnival is really in our blood,” says Kyara proudly.

Together with her two sisters Ashley and Yentl, they intend to make it the ‘best pageant ever’. Ashley: “Yeah it’s great! The only topic of conversation at our house is carnival,” she says with a laugh.

In the run-up to the weekend, the Prince and ladies-in-waiting still have a full agenda. Prince Pétaqi: “In the evenings we visit the barns where the floats are built, both for children and adults. On Friday we go on a school visit and then it breaks loose on Friday evening in the Leuttempel – café De Witte Valk – here on the Dorpsstraat. .”

Live at NH Nieuws and WEEFF
This Sunday we will broadcast the parade live on TV and online at NH Nieuws and WEEFF between 2.30 pm and 4 pm.
