The sky turned gray, but due to the colorful procession of floats, spectators in Zwaag noticed little of this. According to Erik Bot of carnival association Het Masker, the carnival parade had no fewer than 600 participants. “That is more than last year,” says Bot. According to him, there were about 40,000 spectators along the side of the road.
The carnival association was founded in 1966 and the first parade had nineteen floats. The proud founders probably wouldn’t have dared to dream of the enormous procession that passed by in Zwaag this afternoon, full of acts, music and meter-high creations inspired by a variety of themes such as Barbie, the Snorkels or Elton John.
The parade is over, but for the revelers in Zwaag the party is far from over. Tonight it will be announced which float was the most beautiful.
