Alexander Zverev’s older brother Mischa is to look after the German tennis team in the newly created United Cup around the turn of the year in Australia.
According to information from the German Press Agency, Davis Cup team boss Michael Kohlmann will not be present at the mixed event from December 29, 2022 to January 8, 2023. Zverev had already sat on the coaching bench in February 2021 at the now abolished ATP Cup, a competition for national teams in men’s tennis.
The German team in Australia is led by Olympic champion Alexander Zverev. Ladies and gentlemen play together in one team. In addition to Zverev, Oscar Otte, Daniel Altmaier and doubles player Fabian Fallert have so far registered for the men. Jule Niemeier, Laura Siegemund, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Julia Lohoff want to take part in the women’s category.
Germany meets the USA and the Czech Republic in Group C in Sydney. Two women’s and two men’s singles as well as one mixed will be played.
In addition to a total of 15 million euros in prize money, world ranking points will also be awarded. Aside from Sydney, where the finals will also take place, Brisbane and Perth will also be played. The tournament is in preparation for the Australian Open, which begins on January 16, 2023.
