“Thanasi is a very aggressive player, so I tried to take that strength away from him,” said Zverev. “I put pressure on him and was aggressive and that worked very well.”
In the next round, number two seeded Zverev will meet Norwegian Casper Ruud in the hard court tournament worth around 8.6 million US dollars. “Casper is a great player and he’s playing incredibly well at the moment. I’m ready for a tough fight,” said Zverev. His best result in Florida was reaching the finals three years ago. All other German tennis professionals have already been eliminated.
For Zverev, the year has not gone as desired so far. The 24-year-old led the German Davis Cup team to an away win in the qualifier in Brazil. In addition to his otherwise unsuccessful performance, he received a suspended suspension after hitting the referee’s chair with his racquet at the tournament in Acapulco.
