Zulte Waregem returns the red lantern to Seraing with an important victory against KV Mechelen

It was a deserved victory for the home team, with former Golden Shoe Ruud Vormer between the lines for the first time. Essevee already took the lead after five minutes, after a beautiful free kick by Nicolas Rommens in the square. The lead was doubled halfway through the second half. Vormer went down in the box after a drawing error, Zinho Gano completely outscored the visitors from Mechelen from the spot: 2-0, also the final score at the Gaverbeek.

For Essevee it was only the fourth victory of the season, the first since October 20, when they won 3-2 against RSC Anderlecht. This was followed by defeats against Oostende, Standard and STVV, and draws against Mechelen and Eupen. Hardly any points and so they even had to receive the red lantern on Saturday evening, after Seraing’s surprising victory in Ostend. In the meantime, the people of Liège are alone again in last place, with fourteen points. That is one more than KV Kortrijk, which closes the match day in Leuven on Sunday evening, and two more than Essevee. KV Mechelen is also not out of the danger zone with nineteen points and fourteenth place, especially now that the teams at the bottom of the standings are starting to collect points.

The Brussels derby between RSC Anderlecht and Union Sint-Gillis kicks off at 6.30 pm in the Astrid Park. RUSG has already defeated the Purple & White neighbors five times in a row in the competition and would like to continue that series. At RSCA, coach Brian Riemer tries to bring a breath of fresh air. That goes with trial and error. On the previous matchday, Anderlecht, still only eleventh, crept through a small gap at Charleroi (0-1) to win.
